| Imran Khan not interested in Deepa Mehta's 'Midnight's Children' |
|
![]() Deepa Mehta is ready for the screen adaptation of Salman Rushdie’s Booker-winning novel ‘Midnight’s Children’. And both Salman and Deepa feel that Imran would be perfect to play the protagonist of the novel. But the lucky boy is not paying any heed to the director. When she came to India last year and wanted to have a tête-à-tête with the young actor regarding the project, Imran wasn’t available. Poor Deepa confesses that, may be, he is busy or doesn’t desire to work with her. Another possibility could be because of Imran’s uncle Aamir Khan , who developed a discord with the director during the shoot of 1947: Earth . Deepa is working on the film’s script along with Salman Rushdie. And at 61, Salman himself is keen to act in the film. He wishes to do a small role. He has his eyes fixed on a particular role and Deepa has no issues in casting him. They are also good friends of many years. Rushdie was seen in cameo roles in the movies, ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ and ‘And Then She Found Me’. Imran is the first choice of Deepa and Salman for the role of Saleem Sinai, a telepath with an extraordinary nose. They felt that physically he suits the character and can connect well to the novel’s cultural background. But if Imran continues ignoring Deepa’s offer, she would have to see other available actors, and anyone would love to do such a meaty role. |
